Promotions and Class Alignment

Purpose: To provide a varied stratification of classes and opportunities for like performing ensembles to be compared.

Criteria: Promotion decisions will be based primarily on the show’s design. Things we consider include, but are not limited to, the depth of a program’s musical and visual composition, the musical and visual demands expected of the performers to achieve the designer’s vision, coordination of visual and musical elements, etc.

Process: Promotion decisions will be determined by the judging panel on the day of the show. When possible ensembles will be notified in critique by the judging panel. If the ensemble does not attend critique, they will be notified via email, text, and/or voice by the show coordinator within 24 hours of the end of the event.

The director of promoted ensembles will receive an email to confirm and congratulate the promotion within 48 hours of the decision. Please note, ADLA is not responsible for missed communications due to inaccurate information submitted by ensembles or security settings in your email client. Please ensure emails and mobile numbers for your ensemble are updated on your profile page and you have added to your spam white lists.

Watch-List: Some ensembles may require further review to reach a decision on promotion. This will happen in one of two ways:

  1. A judging panel may request the promotion committee to review a recording of the ensemble’s most recent performance. The ensemble will be notified of this request at critique or by email and will be notified of the promotion committee decision within 5 days.
  2. A judging panel will seek input from a subsequent judging panel. To facilitate this, a watch list will be maintained for reference by judges and show coordinators at subsequent shows.

Promotion Dispute: Ensemble must email disputing a promotion decision within 24 hours. Once received, the promotion committee will review a recording of the ensemble’s most recent performance. Ensemble will be notified of the promotion committee’s decision within 5 days.

Promotion into Semis: Due to an ensembles performance schedule or other factors, an ensemble can be promoted at their last show prior to Semi-finals, including the last regular show of the season.
