The American Drum Line Association (ADLA) is excited to announce Julie Davila and Ken Giese as clinicians and evaluators for the 2020 SoCal Evaluation and Clinic.   The event will take place January 25, 2020 at AB Miller HS in Fontana.  Don’t miss an early season opportunity to perform, rehearse and consult with two of WGI’s top percussion judges.

The Clinic/Evaluation is an early look for ensembles wishing to obtain input on the design and performance aspects of their 2020 production.  And be assessed for the ensembles proper classification for the remainder of the season.

Julie Davila

Julie has been involved with WGI for 23 years and was inducted in to the 2014 WGI Percussion Hall of Fame for her contributions to the activity as both an instructor/designer and as an adjudicator. She is currently still active as a performer as a member of the chamber percussion ensemble the CAIXA TRIO, winner of a 2011 “Drummie” award by Drum Magazine. In addition to her membership in the CAIXA TRIO, she served as the chair of the Percussive Arts Society Marching Percussion Committee for ten years, the PAS Board of Directors for six years and served over 15 years on the Percussing Advisory Board for WGI. Julie is the percussion coordinator and arranger for the Middle Tennessee State University Band of Blue Drumline and is an adjunct professor of percussion at MTSU.

Julie received her degree from the University of North Texas where she was a part of three consecutive National Championships as a member of the acclaimed UNT Drumline.  She has published numerous marching and concert percussion features through Row-Loff Productions and Drop6 Media. Julie is the author of the “Modern Multi-Tenor Techniques and Solos” and “Impressions on Wood” published by Row-loff, and is a co-author of “Aptitude” an innovative solo snare book. Julie is an endorser and clinician for the Pearl Corporation, Innovative Percussion, the Avedis Zildjian Company, Grover Pro Percussion and Evans Drum Heads.

Ken Giese

Ken Giese is a nationally recognized visual caption designer and adjudicator. He is an active visual caption judge for Music For All/Bands of America (BOA), Drum Corps International (DCI), Winter Guard International (WGI – Percussion Division), the Winter Guard Association of Southern California (WGASC), and many other local circuits and organizations throughout the United States and abroad. He has served as a visual designer and instructor for numerous high school bands, winter guards, drum and bugle corps, and marching percussion units throughout the United States and Europe. Mr. Giese currently resides in Henderson, Nevada, where he teaches math, band, and color guard at Foothill High School.
